EYE ON PALESTINE: Kafr Kassem & Letter from a time of war (by Borhane Alaouie) film

De opbrengst van deze avond wordt gedoneerd aan Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s fund en World Central Kitchen. 

20:30 Sluit je bij ons aan voor een zeldzame vertoning van twee krachtige films van de overleden Libanese filmmaker Borhane Alaouie: Kafr Kassem en Letter from a Time of War. Deze films, die nauwelijks in de bioscoop te zien waren, verkennen de indringende realiteiten van onderdrukking en verzet.

Na de vertoning host Firas El Hallak, artistiek directeur van Splinter vzw een gesprek over de blijvende relevantie van de films en de rol van kunst in turbulente tijden, zowel in Gaza als in Beiroet. In aanwezigheid van de Libanese filmmaker Vanessa Bowles (haar film ‘Kill Zone’ is op maandag 16/12 te zien in Sphinx Cinema). 

KAFR KASSEM (1974)
Een aangrijpende dramatisering van de bloedige slachting in het Palestijnse dorp Kafr Qasim in 1956, waarbij Israëlische grenspolitie 49 burgers doodde. De film onderzoekt de verschrikkingen van deze vergeten slachting en biedt een indringende kritiek op staatsgeweld.

Kafr Kassem gaat verder dan historische reconstructie; het is een oproep voor menselijkheid en gerechtigheid die tot op de dag van vandaag weerklinkt. Mis deze unieke kans niet om een vergeten hoofdstuk uit de geschiedenis te ervaren, tot leven gebracht door een meester van de cinema.

LETTER FROM A TIME OF WAR (1985)
Een reflectie op de verwoestingen van de Libanese Burgeroorlog door een poëtische en persoonlijke lens, en vangt het gevoel van verlies en verlangen in tijden van conflict.

Dit evenement is een samenwerking tussen Splinter vzw en Ciné Rio als onderdeel van het Eye on Palestine Festival, in samenwerking met United Screens for Palestine.

20:30 Join us for a rare screening of two powerful films by the late Lebanese filmmaker Borhane Alaouie: “Kafr Kassem” and “Letter from a Time of War”. These films, which were barely shown in theaters, explore the haunting realities of oppression and resistance.

Following the screening, Firas El Hallak, artistic director of Splinter vzw, will lead a discussion on the films’ enduring relevance and the role of art in such turbulent times in Gaza and Beirut. In the presence of Lebanese filmmaker Vanessa Bowles (her film ‘Kill Zone’ can be seen at Sphinx Cinema on Monday 16/12).
